okay so I live overseas, my husband is a Marine, and we aren't under anyones laws with regards to schooling, now let's say that we end up being stationed in North Carolina and there, the way I understand it "Parents must give notification and report test scores, and/or be subject to professional evaluation of student achievement.". So when I move from here to there do I just send my letter of intent and carry on? Do I need to prove what I've done in the past? This would be the same as moving from say Texas, where, again as I understand it there is little to no regulation to North Carolina. Thanks in advance for any help. beth

Here are some links that will answer all your questions: Military Homeschooling Families Frequently Asked Questions Whose law do I follow - the state/country where we are stationed, or our state of residence? What are the military regulations related to homeschooling? Does your academic program have to be approved by the commander or regulated by the DoD? Are there support groups at every installation? Is there a phone number that I can call to find out about homeschooling on any particular installation? How can you stand moving around so often? www.nhen.org/nhen/pov/military/default.asp?id=202

Each state has a slightly different set of laws for homeschooling and some have really none at all. Once you return to the states, make sure you find out the law for whichever state you are living in. Click the state to find the laws here: www.hslda.org/hs/state/default.aspI would not worry much about this until you know for sure where you guys are going to live.

I've searched through all of the military links. I was just checking to see only about if I would ever need to show records to another state from a previous states work. Does that make sense? I don't have to do any record keeping here at all.

In all my years of Homeschooling, I have never had to show records to anyone. That is not to say that one day we may have to, just that it has not happened yet. I would keep up with all your records in case you ever do have to show them. Write an overview of each school year including any standardized tests your children have taken and any classes outside your HS. Like I said, every state is different in that area. Contact a large HS group in the area you are planning to move to in that sate and they will be able to answer your question further. I wish I could be of more help. Here is a link of most of the major HS support groups state by state: freedomtoschool.proboards29.com/index.cgi?board=support
