Homeschooled brothers achieve perfect scores in piano performance Cance brothers achieve perfect scores in piano performance On Saturday, March 11, Alexander and Andrew Cance participated in the Wisconsin Music Teacher's Association (WMTA) District Auditions at the UWEC Fine Arts building in Eau Claire. They were adjudicated on the memorized performance of three compositions from different historical style periods. The Theory/Musicianship Test was comprised of both written and aural questions involving various aspects of pitch, intervals and music theory. Alexander and Andrew both received a perfect score earning all 20 out of a possible 20 points awarded on their piano performances and Theory/MusicianshipTests. Alexander's performance included: Sonata, Op. 49, No. 2 by Ludwig van Beethoven, Railroad Street Blues by Martha Mier and Puck, Op. 71, No. 3 by Edvard Grieg. Andrew performed Romance - Allegretto from Sonatina, Kinsky - Halm Anh. 5 by Ludwig van Beethoven, Musette from "English Suite No. 3, Gavotte II au la Musette" by J. S. Bach and Danse Brillante composed by Nancy Faber. Alexander and Andrew's ratings of 20 points qualify them to compete in the Badger State Auditions which will be held on Saturday, May 20, at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Alexander and Andrew home school in the sixth and fourth grade respectively. They are the sons of Ken and Darlene Cance of rural Menomonie and study piano with Nancy Johnston of Chippewa Falls.
