I'm considering homeschooling my two youngest children (I have five). I have always been intimidated by the concept of homeschooling --the idea of being teacher has never sounded too appealing. However, with the options of DVD's and internet it is becoming easier for the parent. I have been looking at two well-known curriculums--Abeka and AOP. Abeka offers a DVD program and AOP offers an internet program. My children will be in 3rd and 4th grades next year and have been (and still are) in a public school. Any opinions on either? Differences in the two? I see AOP suggests testing first to see where the child is at, Abeka does not. Is one more advanced than the other? Would there be any problems moving from public school to either of these curriculums? Thanks so much for any info. you can give me.

Hi angela and welcome to the forum. :-) We used and were very happy with Abeka in those grade levels. I prefer Abeka for the early grades without a doubt. Good luck in your wonderful new adventure. If I can be of any help please let me know. In Christ, Charity

Great! Thanks so much for such a speedy reply. Actually, I was leaning toward Abeka and am glad to know I'm on the right track. Such a lot to learn! As my 9-year-old told a friend, "My mom says I need more God in my life." Amen to that! They get it at church, but of course, absolutely none at school. We are looking into Christian school and homeschooling but the more I am learning, the more I think homeschooling may be the way to go. No driving, driving, driving, and big $$$. Not sure what I'm going to do with the older three---two of them are pretty adament about staying in the school they are at and all three are really into sports---the sports topic is a hot button around here lately. Such a hard decision. Thanks again. Angela

Sports has been one area we have had a lot of blessings with in the homeschool world. See this thread: freedomtoschool.proboards29.com/index.cgi?board=sportsI am a little off tonight (just came home from the doc and I have an upper respitory thing happening (yucky). Once you get a year under your belt in home education, you will probably want to HS them all. I have seen this happen so many times. A good statewide homeschool convention (usually in May according to the state you live in) can open so many doors that you never knew were there.
