Shoman Kasbekar, from Hopewell Academy Homeschool, will represent Georgia in the Scripps National Spelling Bee Championships beginning May 27 in Washington. The 2006 champion, 13-year-old Nandhini Sundaresan, from Webb Bridge Middle School in Fulton County, misspelled "ignominious," but Kasbekar spelled it correctly. Kasbekar then spelled "ineradicable" to win the title. He said winning "felt like fiction" and that "it didn't seem possible, it seemed like a dream," according to a statement from the educators association. He said he wants to see the White House and the Washington Monument. Kasbekar received a first-place trophy and other gifts that included $1,000, two $100 U.S. Savings Bonds, a year subscription to the online version of the Encyclopaedia Britannica and a dictionary. Nandhini received prizes that included a second place trophy, $500, a dictionary, an Atlanta Braves signature baseball and a $50 U.S. Savings Bond. www.11alive.com/news/education/article_education.aspx?storyid=94304
