If this is a career you are interested in, a great way to get started is to become a volunteer firefighter. Most of the rural communities will have volunteer departments.
At the age of 16, you can become a Junior Firefighter. Meetings are usually twice a month and can cover many areas ranging from general first aid, to equipment, to actual fire training. Volunteers are on call 24/7.
It's a great way to get some hands on training and to get an idea of what firefighting is really all about.
