Careers in Medicine The most important question you can ask yourself when deciding on your future career is, why do I want to do this? Your reasons for pursuing medicine may indeed vary: Financial security, the desire to serve the needs of others, the academic challenge, the exciting frontiers of research, and so forth. How you choose to answer this question, believe it or not, is going to be of great importance when you are thinking about, applying to and working towards a career in medicine. Think this through carefully; your reasons will be carefully scrutinized by admissions committees when applying. This is a great commitment you are about to embark upon, not only in terms of those who will come to rely on your expertise and the amount of time and energy you must devote to such a profession, but also with regards to the financial commitment the application and years in medical school warrant of a student. In a nutshell, it is easy to become enamored with a life full of exciting moments, but don’t let that dominate over what is required of you in order to reach that goal. Whatever your reasons may be for applying to medical school, make sure they are honest, well thought out and straight from the heart. www.campusaccess.com/campus_web/educ/e4grad_mecar.htm
