Montana Senate committee kills homeschool regulation bill "Home-schoolers are doing well enough to be left alone," said Dewitt Black, senior legal counsel for the Home School Defense Association based in northern Virginia. "This bill punishes the home-schooling families of Montana for no reason." A roar of approval erupted from some 1,200 Montanans in the Capitol Monday, February 14th, after the Senate Education Committee tabled a bill that would have, among other regulations, forced home school parents without a college degree to submit to inspections from certified teachers. The Senate Education and Cultural Resources Committee shelved the bill within minutes after a 2 1/2 hour hearing ended. Sen. Don Ryan (D), the sponsor of the bill, was the only committee member to vote in favor of it. www.helenair.com/articles/2005/02/15/top/a01021505_01.txt
