I ENJOY THE TOMMY TALES AT LEARNINGPAGE.COM THESE ARE BOOKS THAT CAN BE PRINTED OUT AND HAVE TEACHING NOTES AND WORKSHEETS TO GO ALONG WITH THEM. THEY ARE RECOMMENDED FOR AGES K-3. THE NICE THING ABOUT THEM IS THEY ARE FREE!!!!!

Hi Theresa, I too am very anxious about homeschooling my kindergartener. He too has a very short attention span and bounces off the walls. I have learned through my other children and 7 yrs of experience homeschooling that children learn while they play. We "play" games during our school day. We alternate "book learning" with fun games that teach. Good luck and enjoy this experience with your son.

I recently came across a wonderful idea for moms who homeschool more than one child... create a reading/listening center. This idea is very inexpensive and you can utilize books you already have at home. All you need is a blank audio cassette tape, a tape recorder, any kind of story book (little golden books work well) and a voice of many tones. Record yourself as you read the book. Use different voice tones and excitement as you read. You can even ask questions to be answered by your child. As they listen to the story, they can also read along. Store the book(s) and tape in a gallon size storage baggie attached to a skirt hanger. I seem to have trouble "finding" things for my 1st grader to do while I am working with my other children. This is something she can do "on her own" until I can get back to her. I will update with any results I get.

I went through these exact feelings with my last two children. I actually made it harder on myself (and probably my children) than what it really was. I am currently teaching my grandson to read using the abeka curriculum. He is ADHD and was very behind in all things. Praise the Lord he is reading!!!!! I could just jump through hoops!!!! It has taken some extra time with him but I highly reccomend the abeka phonics and reading program.

approximately $20 including shipping. I really think this is very reasonable with the hardcover book, workbook, craft and other goodies.
